  HIMALAYAN MOUNTAIN SOJOURNS
plans
specially designed SUMMER NATURE CAMPS
for the students. Camping and trekking creates
the spirit of adventure in the youth, provides opportunity to
come in contact with nature, see the countryside and its people,
channelise their energy in right direction, enrich their
experience and build their character by making them live with
fellow trekkers away from the comforts of home life. They
can gain knowledge about Himalayan flora and fauna; can see
various mountain landforms that instill in them a natural
instinct to protect the land. To hand over the mother earth in
to the safer hands of gennex’, we think, the children should be
sensitized early in their childhood against the deteriorating
environment. And also, they experience community living in these
camps—they mix with different people and come in to contact with
various personalities: and hence learn more of life. With this
social interaction they have genuine understanding and
appreciation of others. Thus there cannot be a better way of
utilizing their idle time and directing their energies for
constructive work.
Mountain trekking, camping and climbing is a
sport like any other sport. This point has widely been debated
and mostly agreed that it is definitely a sport and has all the
required pre-requisites. It is now quite advanced and safe with
improvement in equipment and climbing techniques. As compared to
other sports it has three unique qualities:
1. It takes you to the
surroundings of great beauty and grandeur, where you are face to
face with nature.
2. It makes you
supremely fit to face any challenge and it creates confidence to
overcome the difficulties and hazards involved.
3. Also, there are no
spectators to cheer one up or encourage at the time of
difficulty. It is only you and the mountains who have to see and
decide everything without referee.
In the mountains one can test one’s limits,
weaknesses, strength and courage and thus conquer oneself and
nobody else. After an activity on mountain one emerges as a
different man with qualities of leadership, strong willpower,
physical and mental endurance, team spirit, cooperation,
courage, patience, and confidence to tackle any problem in life.
These are the few attributes, which other sports cannot
inculcate in a sportsman. In this sport ego is replaced by
humility, I with We and Proud with Respect.
